What is the Iron Scout?
The Iron Scout is a national and international scouting event.
It is a long-distance walking challenge for teenagers and young adults, combining physical effort with strong educational and social values.
The Iron Scout is not a competition. There are no rankings or winners.
Focus:
- personal challenge
- solidarity and mutual support
The Challenge
Participants complete a long-distance walk within 24 hours.
Distance goals:
20 km · 40 km · 50 km · 65 km
All distances are equally valued. Goals may be adjusted if needed.
Participants walk at their own pace but are never allowed to walk alone.
Who Can Participate?
Open to teenagers and young adults from the age of 13 onwards, depending on national scouting rules.
Typical sections include:
- Scouts / Pfadfinder (13+)
- Pionniers
- CaraPio
- RaRo
- Explorers / Rovers
- Rover / Ranger
Section names vary. What matters is age, maturity, and readiness.
International Participation
From 2026 onwards, international scout groups from the Greater Region and partner associations are welcome.
Participation is organised through scout groups or national associations.
Group Participation & Supervision
Participation is group-based.
- Registration is only possible per group, not individually
- Each group must have at least one responsible adult leader
- The leader must actively participate in supervision (encadrement)
- Each leader is assigned a specific duty (charge) during the event
Participation without an actively involved leader is not possible.
Charity & Sponsoring
Participants can be sponsored per kilometer walked.
All donations support a selected charity project.
Every step counts – for yourself and for others.
